Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitar player and music artist. She was the youngest and first woman to receive a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is a rising young star of the Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil as well as his daughter of Ravi Shankar. Born in London in 1982, and began her life by hopping back and forth to London as well as New Delhi. As a teenager the first time she performed at New Delhi took place. Then the same year, in Encinitas CA she attended high school, graduating with distinction in the year 1999. Anouskha's career as a recorder and performer is quite impressive, in spite of her age. She performs regularly alongside her father and has been doing so for quite a number of years. In 1998, she released Anourag as her debut album as a solo artist. The album was titled Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. Since she's performed at every major stage in the world, her performance career is extensive. Then she moved to California and went to the high school there. at the age of nine, she started studying the piano with her father. Her first performance with the sitar came in her 75th birthday celebration in Delhi in the year following. Anoushka was a part of her father throughout his global tour, gained an impressive quantity of knowledge. As a teenager, she played in Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and recorded alongside George Harrison. She was the youngest woman to win the House of Commons Shield, presented by British Parliament to recognize her musical talent and artistic ability in the Asian Arts.
